Schedule:

We are hiring candidates who have availability for both evening shifts (approximately 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM) and full-day weekend coverage. The hours are approximate and will vary based on client needs. Candidates with additional flexibility—including early mornings, middays, evenings, and weekends—are preferred.
Ideal candidates are freelance professionals, college students, stay-at-home parents and retired professionals
This role is designed to be part-time and many of our employees have other professional or educational commitments.

Location:

Candidates should reside in Greensboro, as this is where our service area is located and allows for more efficient scheduling and responsiveness to client needs.

Compensation and Benefits:

Starting pay is $13.50/hour
100% of tips (typically averages $1–$5 per hour)

Requirements:

Pet care experience - personal, professional or volunteer experience
Must have the ability to work with a variety of dog breeds and sizes
Strong sense of timeliness and personal accountability, with a commitment to showing up on time and following through on responsibilities
Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a high standard of care and professionalism
Ability to safely lift 50 pounds and walk briskly for 30 minutes at a time
Have your own functional and reliable transportation.
We rely heavily on technology. You must have a newer smartphone (TracFones are not compatible) and access to a home computer. Candidates must be comfortable using smartphones to access the internet, manage multiple apps, and communicate effectively

Responsible for the Following:

Providing care to animals (mainly dogs and cats), including walking, feeding, waste removal, medications and other tasks as needed
Communication with staff, clients, and management via voice, messaging, and email
Participate as a team member in company training, education, events and programs.

Top Tails is a professional pet care company, and our clients depend on us to provide reliable, high-quality service every day. This role goes far beyond just playing with pets. It includes walking dogs in all types of weather, caring for senior or special needs animals, lifting heavy food bags, cleaning up accidents, and occasionally navigating tricky situations like locating a hiding cat or handling last-minute changes.

The schedule can vary day to day and week to week, so flexibility and dependability are essential. If you’re someone who can adapt quickly and enjoys a job that changes from day to day, this could be a great fit.

We provide thorough training on our policies, pet care standards, and how to respond to unexpected situations. You'll also have support from our admin team when needed. We’re looking for team members who are responsible, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently.

Because we invest time and resources into training, we do require a minimum 6-month commitment. This position is not ideal for those seeking short-term or seasonal work.

Are you comfortable with all dog breeds, ages and temperaments as well as other types of animals? We primarily work with dogs and cats but also service small mammals, rabbits and reptiles. *

We rely heavily on technology to perform our job. We access pet care instructions, communicate with our team, and provide updates to clients, all with our pet-care industry apps. The apps we use require a modern smartphone with access to unlimited date and GPS. Do you have a modern smartphone? What is your comfort level using apps for communication and scheduling? *

Do you have a valid driver's license, and do you have a clean, safe, reliable, insured vehicle that is consistently available to you for the purposes of dog walking/transporting dogs? *

This is a year-round position. Are you comfortable working and traveling in all four seasons? If the position meets your expectations, are you able to commit to this position for 6 consecutive months? *

This position is part-time and can have a variable schedule. It is supplemental income. Do you have a required minimum income per week? What are your preferred minimum and maximum working hours per week? *

This position involves walking dogs outdoors, navigating stairs and uneven or slippery terrain, cleaning up animal waste, lifting pets or supplies (up to 50 lbs.), and occasionally interacting with the public. Are you able to perform all of the essential duties listed in the job description? *

We offer in-home dog walking during the workday (10 AM–2 PM, Monday through Friday) as well as in-home pet sitting for clients who are traveling—available 7 days a week, 365 days a year. What days can you consistently work?

On the days above that you are available, what time blocks do you have availability in? You should have at least an hour available during the time block to select.

Holidays and peak travel times are our busiest periods. Staff are required to be available to work during at least two of the four major peak times throughout the year. What holiday periods would you be available for? *
